Research Awards
Our next round of awards will open on 17th July 2023 and close on 16th August 2023.
The purpose of research awards is to assist with the costs associated with undertaking a research project. Applications are invited from a woman, or group of women, who are conducting research which benefits women and girls in New Zealand.
The following Research Awards are available in 2023:
Margaret Shields Research Award
This award is a one-off grant to help with research and/or living expenses.
Value of the award: $5000.

Eligibility Criteria
The project lead (the person completing the application form) must be a woman who:

- Is a New Zealand citizen or holds a resident class visa and currently lives in New Zealand
- Has not previously received a New Horizons for Women: Hine Kahukura Award
Selection Criteria
When considering the application, the selection panel considers:

- Quality of the proposed research project (including methodology)
- Project schedule and evidence of progress
- Budget indicating how funds will be spent
- Researcher's capability to conduct the research project
- Benefit to women and/or girls in New Zealand
Ria McBride Award
This award is a one-off grant to help with expenses relating to thesis research.
Value of the award: $5000.

- Is a New Zealand citizen or holds a resident class visa and currently lives in New Zealand

Wahine Ora Award
This award is co-funded by Nga Pae o te Maramatanga, and it aims to support research that benefits Maori women, girls, and/or whanau in New Zealand.

- Is Wahine Maori or the research group is led by Wahine Maori
- Is engaged in research that benefits Maori women, girls, and/or whanau in New Zealand
- Is a New Zealand citizen or holds a resident class visa and currently lives in New Zealand
- Has not previously received a New Horizons for Women: Hine Kahukura Award
