Refugee Study Award

There are currently two Refugee Study Awards offered. One sponsored by Graduate Woman Manawatu and the other by the Second Chance Group who raise money from a 'Preloved Fashion' sale in Wellington each year. For this reason, preference is given to applications from women with lived experience as refugees who live in the greater Wellington and Manawatu regions. However, if there are no suitable applications from these regions, then applicants from other regions will be considered, so please apply.

Previous Awardees

Gulmira Talat was the 2018 recipient of the Refugee Study Award sponsored by Graduate Women Manawatu. Gilmira came to New Zealand as a refugee and has settled into a busy life in Auckland with her husband and two young children. She and her husband are both studying to gain qualifications as they raise their family. Gulmira is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Architectural Study at Unitec Mount Albert Campus. She has already undertaken a certificate in English, studied Fine Art in China for many years, and has a passion to learn things and help others. Gulmira hopes her own efforts are a role model to her sisters and extended family overseas, as well as those in her community in New Zealand
