Purpose of the awards

Second-Chance Education Degree study Awards are for women who are engaging in tertiary education for the FIRST TIME, at a Degree level (NZQA level 7), and have not previously received a NHWT:  HK Award.

The awards are a one off grant to help with study and/or living expenses.

2019 news

Toi Ohomai are sponsoring 4 awards for women studying at Toi Ohomai and Waikato University. Waikato Graduate Women Educational Trust aslo sponsor an award, so there are 5 awards for Bay of Plenty and Waikato applicants.

Eligibility criteria

To apply for a  Degree Study Award you must meet all the following eligibility criteria:

The applicant is a woman, who:

  • Does not already have a degree
  • Is enrolled in a NZ approved tertiary qualification
  • Is studying at a degree level (NZQA level 7)
  • Has completed at least at least 30% or one full year (2 semesters) of the programme
  • Is a New Zealand citizen or holds a resident class visa,
  • Lives in New Zealand
  • Has not previously received a NHWT:HK Award (at this level of study)

Selection criteria When selecting awardees, the selection panel consider the following: Academic achievements, financial circumstances, personal circumstances and experience ,use of funds, and ability to be a role model, especially for women.

Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

NHWT reserves the right to not offer an award if we do not receive a deserving application.

The selection panel's decision is final.

 

NHWT records applicant contact details to enable communications related to the awards programme.

Applications from unsuccessful applicants are disposed of after the award ceremony.

Applications from Second-chance Education awardees are disposed of after the award ceremony.

Applications from Research and Specific Purpose awardees are retained until the research or project is complete.

All progress reports are electronically archived and embargoed for 10 years.

 

If you receive an award we require you to do the following:

  • Allow NHWT to use your name, photograph and information about you (and if relevant, other members of your group) for publicity purposes
  • Receive the award at a NHWT awards ceremony
  • For Second-chance Education and Specific Purpose awardees, provide a progress report to NHWT in the year you receive the award
  • For Research awardees, provide a progress report to NHWT each year of your study, plus provide access to your final research report and any subsequent publications
  • Provide NHWT with up-to-date contact details while you are studying or undertaking your research/carrying out your project
