Purpose of the awards

The Second-Chance Education Diploma and Degree Study Awards are available for women who are under 25 years of age, and who are enrolled in tertiary education at the diploma/degree level.

NOTE: Awardees may have recently returned to complete secondary school studies to gain University Entrance after a gap in their schooling, and are now enrolled in tertiary education at the degree/diploma level.

The awards are a one-off grant to help with study and/or living expenses.

 

Eligibility criteria
To apply for a Second-Chance Education Diploma and Degree Study Award, in the under 25 years of age category, you must meet all the following eligibility criteria:

The applicant is a woman, who:

  • Is under 25 years of age at 12 April 2017
  • Does not already have a diploma or degree
  • Is enrolled in a NZ approved tertiary qualification
  • Is studying at diploma or degree level ( NZQA level 5 or above) and has completed at least 30% of the requirements for the qualification
  • Or is studying at the diploma/ degree level,( NZQA level 5 or above) and has completed at least 30% of the requirements for the qualification, after having recently returned to complete secondary school studies in NCEA or CIE to gain University Entrance, after a gap in her schooling
  • Is a New Zealand citizen or holds a resident class visa, and lives in New Zealand
  • Has not previously received a NHWT Second-Chance Education Study Award
