The Trust’s second-chance awards are to assist women returning to education or training who did not obtain a tertiary qualification when younger.
NEW in 2012 are awards for women studying at Foundation Studies level (NZQA Level 2 and 3).

Opportunity Awards - applications now closed for 2012
The Peg Hutchison Opportunity Award was offered for the first time in 2010 by the New Horizons for Women Trust as a consequence of a generous bequest by Peg Hutchison founding member, and long time Treasurer of the New Horizons for Women Trust.
For the period 2011-2015 an additional award, the Sue Macdonald Opportunity Award, is also available, due to the generosity of Trustee Sally Hasell.

Sonja Davies Peace Award - applications now closed for 2012
The 2012 Sonja Davies Peace Award promotes women’s initiatives to advance the cause of peace. It is an annual award made to a woman or group of women who are New Zealand citizens, resident in New Zealand, who are seeking more knowledge and skills, or developing an activity which will help them build a more peaceful world – at home, school, the workplace, or in the community.
Peace is broadly defined as – elimination of violence within families, lessening of conflict between groups within society, freedom from civil disorder, and cessation of war. It extends to activities which foster mediation or resolution of conflict by means other than violence.

SROW Elsie Locke Award - applications now closed for 2012
The biennial SROW Elsie Locke Award has been established as a tribute to the life and work of Elsie Locke.
This award commemorates Elsie as a New Zealand author and historian; a tireless worker for a fairer society for all, a worker for peace, for equality for women, for reproductive choice and for the environment.
