The New Horizons for Women Trust offers:

-       awards for second-chance education and training in New Zealand

-       awards for research in New Zealand on issues of importance to women

-       the Elsie Locke award

-       the Sonja Davies peace award

-       the Ria McBride Public Service Management Award

 

Second-chance education and training awards

  • Rita King Award - up to $2,500.
  • New Horizons for Women Second-chance Award - up to $2,500.
  • New Zealand Federation of Graduate Women Mildred Keir Training Award $2,500.
  • Other awards which may be funded and named by sponsors.

 

Research awards

  • Society for Research on Women (SROW)/New Horizons for Women Trust Research Award - up to $5,000.
  • NZ Federation of Graduate Women (Wellington branch) – up to $3,000

 

Elsie Locke award
Closing date 31 May 2008 - details and an application form are here.

This award commemorates Elsie as a New Zealand author and historian; a tireless worker for a fairer society for all, a worker for peace, for equality for women, for reproductive choice and for the environment.

 

A biennial award of $4,000 will be made to a woman or group of women researching or writing (fiction or non–fiction) in an area of Elsie Locke’s concerns: Social Justice, Maori, Peace, Women’s Health, New Zealand History or The Environment.


Sonja Davies Peace Award

Up to $3500, Closing date 31 May 2008
This award is to assist a woman or group of women to undertake training or carry out a project that advances the cause of peace - in the home, school, workplace or community. Information and an application form is here.

 


Ria McBride Public Service Management Award

Closing date 9 July 2008. This award of $15,000, sponsored by the State Services Commission, is to help women in the Public Service advance to higher levels of managerial responsibility. Applicants must be employed in one of the 38 Departments of Public Service.  For more details please visit the State Services Commission website.
